Fred Hutchinson replaces Harry Walker as the Cardinal manager
On November 12November 12, 1955 — Fred Hutchinson replaces Harry Walker as the Cardinal manager. With the departure of ‘the Hat,’ the National League for the first time in its history will not have a player-manager in the circuit.
Fred Hutchinson who was also a player-manager at one time, will lead the Cardinals for 3 seasons and have his most success during his 12-year managerial career with the Cincinnati Reds leading them to the 1961 World Series. Huchinson finished his career with 830 victories and 827 defeats.
